Landmarc Support Services has signed up to the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Development Charter. In signing the Charter, Landmarc has shown its commitment to putting sustainable development at the very heart of its business activities and decision making for staff, customers, and local communities.
The official signing of the Charter took place at the Hay Festival (who are also signatories) on Friday 24th May in the presence of company representatives, Welsh Government and Cynnal Cymru. Landmarc is sponsoring the Hay on Earth venue at this year’s event and launching its rural innovation scheme called Landmarc100.
Cynnal Cymru Chief Executive David Fitzpatrick says “Here at Cynnal Cymru we have the responsibility of managing the Charter on behalf of the Welsh Government, and it’s great to welcome such an innovative business as Landmarc to the ever growing group of Charter Signatories. Landmarc provides a great example of how organisations can develop a sustainable ethos and operate in a way that positively impacts on their staff, customers and the wider community. They already have an established pool of best practice activities around sustainability that will really help organisations across Wales on their own sustainability journeys.”
Steve Utley, Project Director for Landmarc Support Services comments, “Embracing sustainability is probably one of the biggest challenges faced by industry today. We manage a significant estate with many thousands of buildings and hundreds of thousands of acres of land. This includes over 100 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a multitude of habitats which provide refuge for some of Britain’s rarest flora and fauna.
“Along with our partners, we employ over two thousand skilled and experienced people and work in remote and rural communities the length and breadth of the UK. Signing this Charter reinforces our commitment to balancing the way our business is run with the way our services are provided to ensure we help develop a better future for everyone.”
Landmarc’s operations in Wales include the Ministry of Defence’s Castlemartin Range in Pembrokeshire , Caerwent Camp near Chepstow and Sennybridge Training Area in Mid-Wales.
A number of significant projects have been delivered to date including the installation of air source heat pumps at Sennybridge Training Camp , solar photovoltaic farms at Castlemartin, as well as community initiatives such as beach clearing and constructing the Epynt Way – a long distance permissive bridle path that follows the perimeter of the 36,000 acre Sennybridge Training Area – to provide the public with excellent outdoor recreation facilities whilst minimising potential impacts on military training.
Landmarc has also partnered with Business in the Community (BiTC) to energise enterprise, skills, natural capital management and safety in rural communities. They join a number of senior business leaders on the Leadership Team of the BiTC Prince’s Rural Action Programme and support the Rural Business Connectors programme, placing talented individuals into communities of greatest need.
