LANDMARC SUPPORT THE WAAT4 CHALLENGE 2014

On Saturday 21 June over 97 teams from all over the UK took part in the WAAT4 Challenge, a circular navigation event held in Wales’ Brecon Beacons National Park.

There were over 500 competitors in total who chose to brave either the 30km or 40km routes in a bid to raise money for various charities.The event is centred around South Wales’ highest peak-Pen y Fan and now in its sixth year, has helped to raise over £130,000 since it began.

The 40km challengers started out at 7am from the Brecon Rugby Club, with all teams taking part in the 30km route setting out an hour later. The teams were lucky with the weather as the sun decided to make an appearance.

Guptaman Gurung, who works in Landmarc’s Wales & West region as a Bookings Administrator and is also part of the WAAT4 organising committee, had this to say;

“All in all, the event was very successfully executed without any issues or casualties.”

Landmarc were a Gold sponsor for this event from which organisers say they are “hoping to raise £30,000”. This year the charities included the Brecon Mountain Rescue and the Wales Air Ambulance.

The winners of the 40k route Might Contain Nuts finished in four hours, five minutes and the Brecon Nepalese Youth Team who came first in the 30k route took three hours, 50 minutes.

The organisers have given their thanks to all of the sponsors and have also praised the many volunteers that helped to make this year’s event such a success.
