Landmarc, who deliver support services at the Ministry of Defence’s Kircudbright Training Camp as part of a national contract with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), developed and landscaped the ground to provide a sand pit, a rock walk and a tyre pyramid and tunnel, made from over 150 tyres kindly donated by Stewartry Tyres in Castle Douglas.
John Riley, head teacher at the school said:
“We were delighted when Landmarc came forward offering to help develop our school playground. It wasn’t just a case of offering us the money either, the whole team, led by Paul Beswick, worked really hard with the school to make sure that the improvements we put in place would be just right for the children.
“Working over the October holiday the Landmarc team had everything ready for the children as they returned to school. And if the excitement of all the new play areas was not enough the children were also treated to a visit from an army landrover and a fly by from a helicopter from the Kirkcudbright Range.”
Paul Beswick, regional delivery manager at Landmarc said:
“Working with our local community is really important to Landmarc so it has been incredibly rewarding to be involved with such a worthwhile initiative. Not only were we able to provide the playground but we also had the opportunity to talk to the children about the different types of machinery used to help them with a project they are doing about work equipment. One of our training area operatives, Mark Baker, delivered the talk and it’s safe to say that he had a very attentive audience.
“We also made sure that all materials were purchased from local suppliers and the tyre pyramid is a fantastic example of what can be achieved using a material that was destined for disposal. We hope the children get many years of enjoyment out of their new facility.”
The Landmarc team comprised Paul Beswick (regional delivery manager), David Hastings (area delivery manager), Mark Baker (training area operative), Joy Baker (training area operative), Martyn McGhie (assistant maintenance technician), Brian Corcoran (maintenance technician joiner) and Kenny Maxwell (training area operative), supported by DIO’s Training Safety Officer (TSO) Maj (Retd) Ernie Morgan and Deputy Training Safety Officer WO11 Scott MacLean.
