LANDMARC AND DIO SCOOP ENERGY EXCELLENCE AWARD

Landmarc Support Services has been recognised for its work on the Defence Infrastructure Organisation’s (DIO) Energy Spend to Save Programme through a prestigious Energy Institute ‘Energy Excellence’ award. The award was made to DIO and its industry partners at a ceremony held in London.

The annual Energy Institute (EI) Awards recognise individuals and organisations in the global energy industry for setting new standards of excellence and innovation in their daily activities.

DIO established the three-year Energy Spend to Save Programme in 2011 to reduce carbon emissions from defence estate activities by 25 per cent. It comprised of a £108 million investment over 1,400 energy efficiency projects across 223 defence sites.

Financial savings of £51 million and carbon reductions of 291,969tCO2 have already been achieved and these figures are expected to rise to approximately £70 million during 2014/15, representing a 65 per cent minimum return on investment.

Peter Smith, Energy and Sustainability Director for Landmarc, said:

“It costs around one million a day to heat, light and power the defence estate, so it has been very worthwhile to work on a programme that has already delivered significant cost savings and carbon reductions.

“This recognition from the Energy Institute is testament to the strong relationship Landmarc holds with the DIO and our suppliers and the sustained value that is delivered through true collaboration.”

Working with the DIO, Landmarc delivered a number of projects including the installation of five solar farms at camps on the Ministry of Defence’s National Training Estate together with building fabric upgrades and conversion from LPG heaters to air source heat pumps.
