Landmarc raises £4,000 for Limavady local charities

Employees at Landmarc Support Services in Scotland and Northern Ireland dug out their clubs and pulled on their golf gloves in order to raise money for two much deserving local charities.

The charity golf event was hosted at the Roe Park Resort in Limavady and saw 20 determined employees compete head to head in two rounds - all with the goal of raising as much money as possible for two amazing charities close to Landmarc’s heart.

The event was held in memory of Darren Hogg, a much missed Landmarc employee and friend, after a tragic loss late last year. Mr Hogg was based at the Ballykinler site in County Down, and the event has been seen to bring both the Magilligan and Ballykinler sites together in the name of some great causes.

An amazing £4,000 was raised through local sponsors, team entry fees and donations given by golfers, as well as friends and family of Landmarc. Local Limavady charities’ Jennifer’s Journey and Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, who have received continued support from Landmarc over the years, will benefit greatly from the fund-raising event.

In 2017, Landmarc raised over £60,000 for Jennifer’s Journey, a cause that supports local girl Jennifer Smyth from Eglinton. At 16, Jennifer was a rising gymnastics star before a freak training accident left her a quadriplegic in 2013.

Landmarc’s £60,000 was used to help purchase Jennifer a robotic exoskeleton, which she is making great progress with today. The funds from the recent golf day will help Jennifer with the continued support she needs.

Air Ambulance Northern Ireland operates 12 hours a day, 365 days of the year and attends some of the most traumatic medical incidents across Northern Ireland. The charity’s helicopter can reach any location in the province in approximately twenty-five to thirty minutes, a response time which can be vital in an emergency situation.

A big congratulations and thank you goes out to Landmarc employees’ Pete Allen, Hans Cook, Kevin Kneeshaw and Jed Wright for organising the event, and to those at the Magilligan site for their overwhelming support.

The great spirit and dedication from those at the Magilligan site ensured that the day was not only charitable but also rewarding and filled with fond memories.

Organisers and participants also wanted to thank the seven local organisations that sponsored the event, without their support the day would have never been as successful.

Pete Allen, Training Area and Facilities Manager at Landmarc who largely organised the event, commented, “The event has been a great success, we hope all the golfers had a great day and that the funds raised can really make a difference to both charities. I’d like to thank everyone who gave up their own time and efforts to make the event a success.”

The trophy, named The Darren Hogg Trophy, was awarded to Team Scotland after a resounding win and a result of 9.5 – 5.5.
