The theme for this year’s National Apprenticeship Week is ‘apprenticeships work.’ This is certainly the case for Jasmine Atkinson, one of our rural apprentices in the South West who is getting the opportunity to further her career and gain new qualifications at the same time.
Here’s Jasmine’s story…
Jasmine Atkinson who has recently taken up the challenge of starting a new apprenticeship with Landmarc, four years in to her career.
When Jasmine Atkinson first started on her career path, location was a key consideration. Having grown up in the countryside, Jasmine was keen to stay close to home, but didn’t want to compromise on finding a role that would both challenge and develop her skills.
Through word-of-mouth, Jasmine successfully applied for a role at Landmarc as a Site Operative; a job that is just three miles from her home. Now four years later, Jasmine has recently started a new Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship.
Says Jasmine, “Starting my apprenticeship has been just the challenge I was looking for. I get to travel to lots of sites and do all the hands-on tasks out in the fresh air that I enjoy best; fixing things, painting, groundworks and maintenance.
“I’m learning new things every day, either through hands-on training or through studying at the local college. It’s not without its challenges; studying while having a full-time job takes time and effort, so it’s really important to have a supportive employer that understands the time pressures you face.
“For me, living and working in the countryside is not a compromise. I have a great future career potential and I get to enjoy my job in some of the country’s most beautiful scenery while I’m working!”
