FORESTRY MANAGEMENT

A large percentage of the Defence Training Estate comprises forests and woodland, home to some 22 million trees! Our Armed Forces rely on these for effective military training that resembles as many real-life worldwide environments as possible.

With the increased threats of climate change, pests and diseases, it’s now more important than ever to maintain and protect UK woodland, where different species can thrive.

Our specialist teams undertake all aspects of woodland and tree management, from establishing new woodlands right through to sustainable harvesting and restocking. This also helps to improve the health and quality of the MOD’s timber resources, which then becomes a vital source for income generation and reinvestment.

INFECTED AND DYING TREES REMOVED FROM 20 MILES OF ROADSIDE

Thousands of ash trees across Salisbury Plain Training Area, as well as many more across the country, are infected with Ash Dieback disease. There is no cure or treatment and over time infected trees will weaken, causing branches to fall and trees to eventually die and collapse.

PROTECTING THE FUTURE OF ASH TREES ON THE DEFENCE TRAINING ESTATE

Ash Dieback, a serious fungal disease affecting ash trees across the country, has infected many of the woodlands on the Defence Training Estate. To protect the future of uninfected ash trees, we are carrying out a tree-felling clearance scheme to remove infected trees.

SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY MANAGEMENT ACROSS THE TRAINING ESTATE

Landmarc’s vast experience in working within the complex and dynamic environments of the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) training estate has enabled us to gain a strong knowledge of the forests and woodland that we manage.
