The results of the geological report suggested the need for hill-face netting, bolting operations and - after concerns were raised at the potential for significant hillside failure - also the use of surveying equipment to monitor activity.

To implement these measures would require the extraction of mature trees. The removal of hundreds of tonnes of timber presented multiple challenges, largely due to the steep incline and dense forestry of the site.

Additional issues with accessing the hillside, the timeframe for the overall access-road remediation project and the need to minimise disruption to the local community, made the project a complex operation.
