LANDMARC AND DIO CLEAN FOR THE QUEEN

Landmarc Support Services (Landmarc) and Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) employees have been busy helping to tidy the streets of Bulford, Wiltshire, with a ‘Clean for the Queen’ litter pick in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Clean for the Queen

Clean for The Queen is a campaign by Keep Britain Tidy, which aims to clear up Britain for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016.

On Wednesday 20th April, the team grabbed bin bags and litter pickers and helped clean up public areas around Tidworth Garrison and Bulford Ranges on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. DIO staff, Tidworth troops and Landmarc employees volunteered their time, spending the morning helping to collect just under 10 tons of rubbish.

Landmarc, who deliver support services for the DIO, continuously work to ensure the Ministry of Defence (MOD) training estates are kept clean for training troops and the public in public access areas, which is a continual challenge due to fly-tipping and other types of rubbish causing problems.

Vic Bass, area delivery manager at Landmarc, said: “I saw this as an excellent opportunity to volunteer with DIO colleagues to do something for the local community as well as contribute to the Queen’s birthday celebrations.”

Brian Heil, DIO’s regional executive officer for the South West, said: “The Salisbury Plain Training Area is a key part of the community of Wiltshire. We are very proud of what we have here on the Plain so I was keen to ensure that we played our part in helping to keep the area litter free.”

A second litter pick – Operation Clean Sweep – is provisionally planned for Wednesday, 2nd November.
