Nikki Keen, Administration Supervisor, used one of her Be the Difference volunteering days to help freshen up East Haven, which is one of the earliest recorded fishing communities in Scotland.

Helping to enhance the local community
Nikki said, “I used one of my ‘Be the Difference’ volunteering days to assist the charity group East Haven Together, which is a charity that aims to protect and enhance the local heritage, natural environment and wildlife while promoting the needs and interests of the village and its residents.
“I joined seven members from the Coca-Cola group, who were also using their volunteer day to help out as well. We had a brilliant day, doing various tasks from painting, removing vegetation and beach cleaning.
“We were placed into small teams and I was put in charge of the painting group. We repainted the blue bridge, Bothy Garage and the toilet block – which is known locally as the Wee Gallery, because it hosts a small gallery of local artists work.
“We managed to complete all the tasks and a good time was had by all. As a resident of East Haven village, I’d like to thank Landmarc for their continued support over the years. In 2016 Landmarc got involved by helping residents create a community petanque course and provided materials to help create new art work on the coastal path, which helped the village achieve not only a Gold RHS Britain in Bloom award, but we were also named best small village in the UK!”

Wendy Murray, Lead Trustee for East Haven Together said, “On behalf of East Haven Together I would like to thank Landmarc for allowing Nicola Keen to spend a volunteering day with us. As you might be aware everything which happens in our coastal community is undertaken by volunteers.
“Today Nicola worked with other volunteers to paint the public toilets, a bridge, our ATV shed and other street furniture. Not only that but she also helped serve lunches and refreshments to everybody so didn’t even get a proper rest at lunch time. We are delighted about what was achieved and it really makes a huge difference to our community.”
