NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK BEGINS TODAY!

Today marks the start of National Apprenticeship Week, a week-long annual celebration of apprenticeships. Now in its thirteenth year, this year’s theme is ‘Look Beyond’, which aims to encourage everyone to look beyond the outdated stereotypes surrounding apprenticeships and to celebrate the diversity of opportunity and value that they bring to the country today.

To support the campaign, we are featuring a series of apprentices who are all at different stages of their qualifications, from Megan Allerston, Bookings Administrator in the North, who has just started the programme, to Alain Brooker, Maintenance Technician in the South West, who  has recently completed his two-year Level Three Diploma in Facilities Management.

To start us off, Megan Allerston, Bookings Administrator in the North, is currently three months into a 14 month Level Three Business Administration Apprenticeship. Here she talks about how she is finding the course:

“I have been working as a Bookings Administrator for Landmarc since February 2018 and enjoy learning, having completed a Level Two Business Administration qualification elsewhere, so when the opportunity arose to complete Level Three I jumped at the chance.

Learning new skills increases confidence at work

“Although I’ve only been doing the course for three months, I already feel that it has helped increase my confidence at work. I’m enhancing my knowledge on Microsoft packages and learning valuable new skills, such as shortcuts on the computer, which I now use every day. The course is also helping to refresh my memory on things I have forgotten, which I can now use going forward to help me complete my role more efficiently.

Work study balance

“Now that I’ve got into the swing of things, I’m finding studying and working manageable. I have a set day each week that is dedicated to study and that really helps me to concentrate on the course without being distracted by my day-to-day job in the office. I’m really enjoying the course and look forward to studying, it breaks up the working week, but equally I can’t wait to get back to work afterwards.

There are opportunities if you want to learn

“I aspire to work my way up within Landmarc and I know this course is going to help me do that. So far, the process has been good, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve had loads of support from my Supervisor and haven’t found the course too challenging, yet!

“My advice to anyone who is considering an apprenticeship is to go for it! If you like learning and want to learn, then there are opportunities available for you.”
