Volunteers from Landmarc, have helped to construct a new French boules course for East Haven residents.
L to R, Gavin Watson of DJ Laing, John Keen, East Haven resident and former Landmarc employee, Landmarc Regional Operations Manager Kevin Kneeshaw, Landmarc Area Delivery Manager Kevin McBay and Landmarc Team Administrator and local resident, Nicola Lyall.
Working with the support of East Haven Together, the charitable organisation that looks after the region’s coastal and garden areas and local contractor DJ Laing, Landmarc staff dug, spread, moved and shifted more than nine tonnes of gravel to create the new leisure facility, also known as a Petanque course, for the whole community to enjoy.
The project was the brainchild of Landmarc employee and local resident, Nicola Lyall, who explains:
“We have a scheme running at work called ‘Be the Difference’ which enables employees to volunteer some of their time during work hours to help put something back in to the communities that we work in.
“Having lived in East Haven all my life and working on the nearby Barry Buddon Ministry of Defence Training Camp for Landmarc, I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to get local residents together.
“It was great fun working on the project and helping to provide a facility that will give local residents and visitors to the area the chance for a game or two in the Scottish sun and the opportunity to get to know people in their local community a little better.
Wendy Murray, Lead Trustee of East Haven Together added:
“Residents have aspired to having their own community petanque course for a number of years and we were delighted that Landmarc stepped in to help make this ambition a reality. Community Petanque enables people of all ages and all abilities to enjoy some gentle exercise and social time together so it is ideal for a community based activity. We are very grateful to Landmarc and DJ Laing.”
The course was formally opened by Landmarc’s Regional Operations Manager Kevin Kneeshaw. Area Delivery Manager Kevin McBay, Gavin Watson from DJ Laing Contracts and representatives from East Haven Together and local residents.
