Environmental sustainability

Protecting the environment is a key part of our role on the UK Defence Training Estate

We look after 190,000 hectares of some of the most valuable habitats and landscapes in the UK including over 40,000 hectares of National Park land and 70,000 hectares of nature conservation sites.

Protecting the environment is a key part of our role on the UK Defence Training Estate. From sustainable land management and forestry, to energy reduction programmes such as our award winning Net-Zero Carbon Accommodation (NetCAP) programme; we are committed to environmental protection as we make the Estate a safe – and sustainable – place to train.

NET-ZERO CARBON ACCOMMODATION PROGRAMME (NETCAP)

NetCAP is a multi-million pound investment in carbon-efficient accommodation to transform the lived experience of our Armed Forces whilst helping the MOD to achieve its carbon emission goals.

REDUCING WASTE ON THE UK DEFENCE TRAINING ESTATE

Landmarc won an MOD Sanctuary Award for our achievements in sustainable waste management, with over 95 per cent of our waste now being diverted from landfill.

LANDMARC CARBON REDUCTION PLAN

As a partner to the MOD, we recognise the role we have to play in supporting government’s carbon reduction ambitions. The Landmarc Carbon Reduction Plan outlines how we aim to achieve net zero carbon by 2035 from the emissions that are under our control.

THE INCREDIBLE ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE DEFENCE TRAINING ESTATE

There are 811 legally protected Scheduled Monuments and 87 Listed Buildings managed by Landmarc on the Defence Training Estate, ranging from the burial sites of our earliest ancestors through to more modern military archaeology.
