LANDMARC AIMS TO ACHIEVE THE AMBITIOUS TARGET OF BEING NET ZERO CARBON BY 2035
Landmarc has published its Carbon Reduction Plan outlining how the business will achieve the ambitious target of being net zero carbon by 2035.
Climate change is a significant risk to global peace and prosperity. It has the potential to make existing conflicts worse globally due to the destabilising impacts from extreme weather events and food, water and energy security.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD)’s Climate Change and Sustainability Strategic Approach recommends three strategic ambitions to be achieved by 2050:
- Defence acts and is recognised as a global leader in response to the emerging geopolitical and conflict-related threats being exacerbated by climate change;
- Defence has adapted to be able to fight and win in ever more hostile and unforgiving physical environments;
- Defence has reduced its emissions and increased its sustainability activity and as a department has contributed to the UK legal commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
As a key supplier to the MOD on the UK Defence Training Estate, we recognise the role we have to play in supporting the MOD with its ambitions.
The Landmarc Carbon Reduction Plan outlines how the business will achieve net zero carbon by 2035 from the emissions under our control.
In addition to our directly controlled carbon emissions, Landmarc recognises that we have significant impacts on the emissions of our customer. These emissions include:
- Operational emissions from Landmarc delivering its contract, for example electric and heating usage from buildings owned by our customer, vehicles emissions used to run the estate and emissions from operating equipment.
- Delivering improvements to the built estate though new buildings, renovation and maintenance works.
- The significant potential of the rural estate to act as a carbon sink.
Landmarc has already shown what is possible in delivering the low carbon future with the development of the multi award winning Net-Zero Carbon Accommodation Programme (NetCAP) and our on-going partnership with our customer to manage the rural estate. We will continue to implement innovative solutions to electrify and decarbonise the estate and equipment, and optimise the estate’s ability to sequester carbon in partnership with our MOD partners.
NET-ZERO CARBON ACCOMMODATION PROGRAMME (NETCAP)
NetCAP is a multi-million pound investment in carbon-efficient accommodation to transform the lived experience of our Armed Forces whilst helping the MOD to achieve its carbon emission goals.
PREVENTING CARBON LOSS ON THE DEFENCE TRAINING ESTATE
Landmarc works with the MOD to carefully balance the needs of military training activity with the conservation of delicate habitats to help achieve net zero carbon across the UK Defence Training Estate.
ADDRESSING THE DECLINE IN BEE ABUNDANCE ON THE UK DTE
Projects led by Landmarc on the UK Defence Training Estate have been recognised in the MOD’s Climate Change and Sustainability Strategic Approach, which was launched by the MOD in March 2021.
