LANDMARC HELPS TO CLEAN UP THE CORNISH COAST

A team of eight employees from Landmarc Support Services recently took to the Cornish coast to take part in a beach clean in aid of World Environment Day.

Pictured at the beach clean are Sustainability Adviser Alex Jones, Sustainability Manager Amanda Williams, Site Operative Jasmine Atkinson, NSC Supervisor Karen Broadbent, Rural Maintenance Manager Steffan Jones and NSC Call Agents Alex Abel and Tracey Robinson.

The beach, which is accessible to the general public, covers over a mile of coastline around the Ministry of Defence’s Tregantle Fort, which is used for military training exercises.

In the day-long event, held on Monday 5th June, the team cleared 23 bags of rubbish, along with items including a car seat, a shopping basket and items of clothing.

The team also cleared the beach of discarded fishing lines, which are non-biodegradable and as such can pose a risk to the coastal environment and marine life.

Steffan Jones, Landmarc’s rural maintenance manager for the South West region, said “We organise and carry out a number of beach cleans throughout the year to not only improve the area for those who use it but also to help protect and conserve the habitats of our valuable coastline.

“This time, we wanted to tie the event in with World Environment Day and with this year’s theme of ‘Connecting People with Nature’ it was the ideal opportunity to get the team involved to do our bit for the local environment”.
