To celebrate Armed Forces Week 2022, Mair Warrilow and Cheryl Higgins, both Site Operatives at Sennybridge in Wales and West, spent the week dressed as a World War II matron and nursing clerk to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

The duo decided to mark this year’s Armed Forces Week by building a makeshift WWII field hospital in their office, complete with a bed, stretcher and first aid kit and dress in traditional nurses uniform. On Monday they held a cake sale with bakes donated by ESS and local bakery St Mary’s Bakery in Brecon.
Mair said, “I love dressing up so thought we’d have a bit of fun and try and raise some money for SSAFA at the same time. SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, is a UK-wide charity that provides lifelong support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families or dependents. Like a lot of other charities, they have been adversely affected by COVID-19 and have seen a significant fall in donations as fundraising events haven’t been able to go ahead as normal, so we saw this as a brilliant opportunity to generate some much needed funds, and have a laugh at the same time.
“I roped Cheryl in and we built our Nurses Station last week. Donations have been coming in thick and fast and we are so pleased to be able to say that we have raised approximately £730 so far, from online and offline donations, for SSAFA!
“Big thanks to everyone who has come to see us and made a donation, we hope we made you smile!”
