Former Wiltshire Council cabinet member and councillor Jerry Wickham sadly passed away in 2019 from prostate cancer and this year marks the third charity cycle ride in his memory, supported by Landmarc, to raise money for charities close to Jerry’s heart.

Landmarc’s team comprised Regional Operations Manager for the South West Chris Ockleton, Rural Estate Delivery Advisor David Blake, Training Area Manager Graeme Rose, Additional Works Manager Doug North, Training Area Supervisor Les Hooper, Forestry Works Manager Mark Hedley and Team Leader Luke Hardiman, who had a choice of either a 30 mile or 100 mile route.

Chris Ockleton, who tackled the 100 mile route, said, “Our local communities are important to us so it was an honour for me and the team to take part in this event to raise money for two such great causes. We really enjoyed the ride but even more importantly, our involvement provided us with opportunities to raise awareness of prostate cancer across our business. Thank you to Wiltshire Council for organising such a fantastic event, we were proud to be a part of it.”

David Blake, Landmarc’s Rural Estate Delivery Advisor, who is currently living with prostate cancer and cycled the 30-mile route said, “Any event that can help us to raise awareness of prostate cancer is worth supporting in my view. I have been lucky, I was diagnosed early so the cancer in my prostate is well managed – I have no symptoms and live a normal life.  My advice to any man over fifty is to start getting an annual PSA check through your GP; early diagnosis gives you options about treatment and could save your life.”

Terence Herbert, Chief Executive, Wiltshire Council added, “We were delighted to have Landmarc’s support for this year’s Cllr Jerry Wickham Charity Cycle Ride.  Landmarc have a history of partnering with Wiltshire Council on cycling initiatives in the county so it has been wonderful to work with them again and have a team join us for the ride”

Well done to the team for taking part. If you would like to support them by making a donation, the Just Giving page remains open and people are encouraged to donate what they can for these very worthy causes.
