A PROMISE MADE IS A PROMISE KEPT

By Adam Hudson, Corporate HR Manager

With another New Year just around the corner, you’re probably starting to think about the promises you’re planning to make for 2018!

Maybe yours is to get fit, to do more … or to eat less!  Perhaps you want to be braver, kinder or more patient? Whatever your resolution, the sad reality is that the statistics show you’ll have probably failed by the second week of February! Landmarc Managing Director Steve Utley accepts our silver award from Wessex Reserve Forces & Cadets Association’s Regional Employer Engagement Director, Rachael Brannagan.

Here at Landmarc, there’s one really important resolution that we first made back in 2014 – and which we are determined to keep.  It’s our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant; a promise to those who serve or who have served, and their families, which says we will do all we can to ensure they are treated fairly and not disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives.

This declaration means that we formally recognise our moral obligation to members of the armed forces and set a framework for ongoing support to these individuals. This includes promoting employment opportunities to veterans, such as through our ongoing partnership with X-Forces and the Career Transition Partnership, and supporting employees who choose to be members of the Reserve forces.

We’ve recently had our commitment recognised once again in this year’s Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Awards, retaining our Silver award, which we first received back in 2014. As Lieutenant General Richard Nugee, Chief of Defence People, explains: “Your actions mean that our veterans, the wounded injured and sick, our Reservists and their families are not disadvantaged by their military service and have the same opportunities as everyone else. Your commitment is highly valued and is at the heart of all that can be achieved in every part of the country through the Armed Forces Covenant”.

Such accolades are naturally, an honour to receive, and demonstrate the ongoing promises our staff have made to support our serving troops and their families. But more importantly, they remind us all of the role that businesses, just like ourselves, have to play in advocating support for our defence communities.

That’s why we have also signed up to sponsor the Business of the Year Award – Community Impact category in the 2018 SoldieringOn Awards. This award will recognise a business, that was started up by an individual linked with the armed forces, that has a made a real impact to the Armed Forces Community.

It’s one more way that we will be flying the flag for our inspirational service men and women and all those who support our Forces. Think of it as a renewal of our promise and a determination to encourage other businesses to do the same.
