A FULL DAY’S WORKING – AND LEARNING

Through our Apprenticeship Levy fund we are committed to offering learning opportunities for our employees, providing a range of valuable skills for their future career development.

But what if you work irregular hours or a long shift pattern? Is it really feasible to study, and work, at the same time? We say yes!

We believe that there should be no barriers to our employees improving their qualifications. Take a look at Alex Abel, one of our National Service Centre Agent’s experience to see for yourself.

Alex explains:

“As a National Service Centre Agent, my role involves logging reactive maintenance cases received via the call centre, entering bookings for training areas in the North and Scotland regions and a wide range of administrative tasks.

“I work in 12-hour shifts and it’s always busy; making sure we offer both a friendly and professional service to our colleagues across the region. It’s rewarding to finish a shift knowing a full day’s work has been done!

“Even though my day job keeps me very busy, I was keen to take up the opportunity to study for additional qualifications via a level 3 apprenticeship in team leading & supervising.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity; upskilling and gaining qualifications without having to take a career break. Not many people get that chance in life.

“It’s tough at times to strike the right balance of time to spend on different tasks, but through a combination of online and classroom sessions I’m constantly learning while I’m working.

“I went in to my 18-month studies knowing that it wasn’t going to be easy. But when you’ve got an employer that wants to invest in your development and will work with you to make it all feasible, why wouldn’t you go for it?”
