REFLECTING ON OUR BEHAVIOURS

In the last of our series of blogs from colleagues across the business about our company vision, mission and values, we hear from Area Delivery Manager, Jeff Hudson from RAF Spadeadam in Cumbria, who shares his views on our company’s behaviours.

“I’ve been working for Landmarc since November 2014 when Spadeadam first joined the NTEP contract. I’ve been an Area Delivery Manager for five years and one of the joys of the job, is all the activities we support.

“The role of Area Delivery Manager here doesn’t quite fit that which would probably be seen as normal in other areas across the business. The unique role of the unit can mean, preparing and supporting our dedicated deployment teams ready to be sent around the globe supporting Electronic Warfare training when and wherever the RAF requires it. This could result in spending a few days in Wales, Scotland or as far afield as the Australian outback. Such a contrast, for the following day, I could be undertaking something as simple, but no less important as rewriting COSHH or Risk Assessments. Suffice to say, no two days are alike but that suits me just fine.

“The new company behaviours are a fresh reminder of how we all should conduct ourselves; values exist in every workplace and I believe as a whole it’s how most of us live our lives anyway. Having a set of company values and living them ensures we are all on the same path, working towards a shared end goal. I think it gives us a standard for us all to achieve, but we must be sensible in how we apply these standards across the business if we want them to be a success. The business needs values, so we can build great relationships within our teams and with our customer, creating a sense of commitment in our workplace and the delivery of an excellent service to our customer.

“It’s essentially how most of us live our lives already but in terms of working with many different people, each with their own set of values, this provides a framework for what all would believe is acceptable behaviour.

“UTILISING AND APPLYING OUR BEHAVIOURS ENABLES US TO CONTINUALLY SUPPORT OUR VISION TO PROVIDE THE BEST FOR OUR ARMED FORCES ULTIMATELY ALLOWING THEM TO DEPLOY AND RETURN HOME SAFELY.

“Embracing flexibility is key. It is only human nature to not like too many changes in a workplace, it can be daunting and removes us from our comfort zone but it’s crucial to any successful business. If we don’t change things, how do we know how to make things better? To achieve great things, you have to experiment and change encourages innovation, develops skills, develops employees and leads to better business opportunities and improves morale.

“Transparency is the key to any successful change. I always find with the appropriate level of involvement, our people fully embrace change and I never overlook the importance of two-way feedback.

“ALONGSIDE OUR NEW COMPANY VISION, MISSION, VALUES AND BEHAVIOURS, THE FRAMEWORK IS IN PLACE TO GUIDE US IN THE WAY TO BEHAVE AT WORK. IT’S HUGELY IMPORTANT THAT EVERY EMPLOYEE IS TREATED WITH RESPECT AND THE EMPHASIS WE PLACE ON THE VALUE OF ALL INDIVIDUALS IS VITAL. WHEN IN MEETINGS, ALL ATTENDEES ARE ENCOURAGED BUT NOT OBLIGED TO SPEAK. WE SHOULD NOT UNDER ESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR FEEDBACK, AS MY DEAR OLD MUM WOULD SAY, “THANK YOU COSTS NOWT”.

“Our people always put the customer first, whether that’s on a late task or on deployment around the country in support of critical aircrew training and our customer focus is never more important than during a global pandemic.”
