In life – and in our careers – we often hear the phrase ‘you only get out what you put in.’ It’s fair to say that achieving our goals takes a bit of work and some commitment.

Ryan Warren, a Training Area Operative, who is half way through his 12-month Property Maintenance apprenticeship, with his thoughts on the rewards of studying for a further qualification.
In this week’s National Apprenticeship Week, we’ve been talking about the Apprenticeship Levy and how it is enabling us to invest in our employees’ skills. To date, 86% of our annual Levy Fund has been utilised, with just over £126,000 allocated to various apprenticeship programmes.
Here’s Ryan Warren, a Training Area Operative, who is half way through his 12-month Property Maintenance apprenticeship, with his thoughts on the rewards of studying for a further qualification.
“I have worked at Landmarc for two years, starting out as a Training Area Operative before beginning my apprenticeship in property maintenance.
“I’m a hands-on person. I get a real sense of achievement from taking something that is broken and making it like new again and I enjoy getting out and about, especially to the many historic military buildings that we have on the Estate. That’s why my apprenticeship is so rewarding. It suits the way I work and enables me to train for a qualification, while on the job.
“As well as learning valuable maintenance techniques and best practice, I’m also studying record keeping, administration and customer service too, so by the end of my apprenticeship, I’ll have a really strong set of skills to take me forwards in my career.
“I would say to anyone considering an apprenticeship, it’s very worthwhile and you have to be prepared to put the work in – but the job satisfaction, the qualification and ultimately, the rewards make it all worthwhile.”
